Uganda is currently hosting over 1.4 million refugees Among the 45,000 refugees in Kampala, 12,000 are from Eritrea and Ethiopia. Uganda has one of the most generous and progressive approaches to hosting refugees in the region. In Uganda, refugees are hosted in ‘settlements’ where they are given pieces of land to put up shelters, grow food, and start their own businesses. Kakuma is a town in the Turkana region in the north-western part of Kenya. It is one of the hottest regions. It only gets a few drops of rain throughout the year. Luckily there is a river passing next to the city. The main resource for water is from drilled wells. The town Hosts Kakuma Refugee Camp since 1992. This camp currently serves over 180,000 people who have fled wars and violence in neighboring countries, particularly Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Sudan. Presently there are more than 10,000 Ethiopian and Eritrean refugees. Some of them have been there for more than 20 years. There is an Ethiopian and Eritrean church in Kakuma Refugees Camp since the opening of the camp.
